What is dasha and antardsha

In Vedic astrology, Mahadasha and Antardasha are crucial for understanding the timing of events in a person’s life. Mahadasha is a major period ruled by a specific planet, while Antardasha is a sub-period within that Mahadasha, also ruled by a planet, influencing how the main period manifests.

Here’s a breakdown:
  • Mahadasha:
Represents a broad, overarching period in one’s life, lasting for a specific number of years, governed by a particular planet. For example, a Venus Mahadasha might signify a period focused on relationships, creativity, and luxury.

  • Antardasha:
Represents a sub-period within a Mahadasha, also ruled by a planet. For instance, within a Venus Mahadasha, there might be an Antardasha of Mercury, adding specific influences to the overall Venusian energy.

  • Relationship:
Mahadasha sets the overall tone, while Antardasha fine-tunes the experience within that tone. They work together to shape the unfolding of events.

  • Example:
Imagine Mahadasha as the main course of a meal, and Antardasha as the side dishes that accompany it. The main course sets the general theme, but the side dishes add specific flavors.

  • Significance:
Understanding these periods can help astrologers predict when certain themes will be more prominent in a person’s life and when specific events are likely to occur.
