For a south-facing house, Vastu Shastra recommends placing the main entrance in the south or southeast, avoiding the southwest. The master bedroom should be in the southwest for stability, while the kitchen belongs in the southeast. The living room is best in the northeast or east, and the puja room should be in the northeast. Light colors, especially earthy tones and shades of red and orange, are suggested for south-facing homes, with walls in the south and west being higher and thicker for balance.
- Main Entrance: Locate it in the southeast or center of the south wall. Avoid the southwest zone.
- Master Bedroom: Place it in the southwest corner to promote stability and security.
- Kitchen: The ideal location is the southeast corner, also known as the “Agni” (fire) corner.
- Living Room: Position it in the northeast or east for uplifting energy and sunlight.
- Pooja Room: The northeast is considered the most sacred direction for this room.
- Staircase: Place it in the south, west, or southwest for balanced energy.
- Water Tank: An underground water tank should be in the northeast.
- Bathrooms/Toilets: The best locations are the west or northwest, or on the east side of bedrooms.
- Walls: Make the south and west walls higher and thicker than those on the north and east for structural and energetic balance.
- Furniture: Place heavier furniture in the south and west to maintain stability.
- Colors: Use light, earthy tones like browns, beiges, oranges, and reds. Avoid dark colors such as black and blue for the main entrance and façade.
- Southwest Entrance: Never place the main door in the southwest, as it can be destabilizing.
- Heavy Items in Northeast: Avoid heavy furniture or storage in the northeast, which should remain light and open.
- Southwest Garden: Do not place gardens or large plants in the southwest corner.
- Mirrors: Avoid randomly placing mirrors on south walls.
- Dark Façades: Do not paint the main entrance or the exterior in black or blue.
