The main entrance, according to Vastu, is most auspicious in the north, east, or northeast directions, which are believed to attract positive energy, prosperity, and good health. Less ideal but acceptable directions include west, while south-facing entrances are generally considered inauspicious and should ideally be avoided or corrected with Vastu remedies. The entrance should be larger than other doors, well-lit, and ideally open clockwise without any obstructions. 
Auspicious directions
  • North: Linked to wealth and career opportunities.
  • East: Brings positive energy, growth, and good health.
  • Northeast: Extremely positive for spiritual growth and harmony. 
Other directions
  • West: Can be beneficial if Vastu remedies are applied for balance, bringing stability if designed well.
  • South: Generally not preferred as it is associated with high heat and aggression, but can be corrected with Vastu remedies.
  • Southwest: Generally avoided as it is believed to bring obstacles and sluggish energy. 
Design and placement tips
  • The main door should be the largest door in the house.
  • Keep the entrance well-lit.
  • Position the door away from corners, if possible.
  • The door should ideally open clockwise, to the right side.
  • Ensure there are an odd number of steps leading to the main door.
  • Avoid placing the door in the exact center of a wall.
  • Use solid wood for the main door, and avoid black paint.
